How to Measure Window Shades Correctly (Step-by-Step Guide)

Accurate measurement is essential for custom window shades to ensure a perfect fit.

Step 1: Choose Mount Type

  • Inside Mount (inside window frame)
  • Outside Mount (outside frame)

Step 2: Inside Mount Measurement

Width

Measure top, middle, and bottom. Use the smallest value.

Height

Measure left, center, and right. Use the largest value.

Tip: Do not deduct unless instructed.

Step 3: Outside Mount Measurement

Width

Add 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) beyond window width for better coverage.

Height

Extend 10–20 cm above the window for better blackout performance.

Common Mistakes

  • Only measuring once
  • Mixing cm and inches
  • Ignoring window handles or trim

Pro Tip

For maximum blackout performance, outside mount is recommended.
