1. How to Measure for Inside Mount Blinds

An inside mount fits within the window recess for a clean, built-in appearance. First confirm that the recess is deep enough for your selected shade.

Inside Mount Measuring Steps

1. Measure the inside width at the top, middle and bottom of the window recess. Record the narrowest measurement.
2. Measure the inside height on the left, center and right. Record the longest measurement.
3. Measure the window depth from the front edge of the recess to the nearest obstruction, such as a handle or lock.
4. Check that the window is reasonably square and that no hardware will interfere with the shade.

2. How to Measure for Outside Mount Blinds

An outside mount covers the window frame or surrounding wall. It is a good choice when the recess is too shallow or when you want greater window coverage and improved light control.

Outside Mount Measuring Steps

1. Measure the desired coverage width. For better privacy and light control, add 2–4 inches beyond the window frame in total when space allows.
2. Measure the desired coverage height from the planned mounting position to where you want the shade to end.
3. Check for trim, handles, furniture and other obstructions before confirming the final size.

Many Curtaincustom inside-mount shades require a minimum unobstructed window depth of 1.5 inches. Always check the specific product page before ordering because headrail and mounting requirements can vary by shade style.

• Measuring the width or height in only one location.
• Rounding measurements up to the nearest whole inch.
• Subtracting the 5 mm inside-mount deduction yourself.
• Assuming two similar-looking windows have identical dimensions.
• Forgetting to check window depth, handles, locks or other obstructions.

Should I deduct anything from my inside-mount width?

No. Submit the exact narrowest inside width. Curtaincustom will deduct 1/5 inch (5 mm) from the width during production.

What if my window depth is less than 1.5 inches?

Choose an outside mount or contact us to confirm whether your selected shade can be installed safely in the available depth.

Do I need to measure every window?

Yes. Window dimensions can vary, even within the same room, so measure and label each window separately.

What should I do if my window is not square?

Use the narrowest width and longest height for an inside mount. If the differences are significant, send us photos and measurements before ordering.
